Spring Internships
The Wexford - Loveland
Activities Internship - At The Wexford, our staff works to provide an enriching and stimulating environment for all of our residents, interns, and volunteers. This is a unique opportunity for you as an intern to not only apply your education to this population, but also expand your experience within the gerontology field and create a safe and fun environment for our older adults. As the Activity Director of The Wexford, I am here to help you expand your knowledge, increase your experience, and create opportunities for you to implement new ideas. Some of the projects that I need your assistance with include running bingo, crossword puzzle, Wii games, etc. Although there are many hands on activities, I also want you to experience the Activity Director position as a whole and learn to create flyers, help design the calendar, and construct various surveys, trivia questions, etc. Once you have experienced the wisdom, love, and kindness of these residents you will have a new outlook on life and understanding of individuals as a whole. This experience as an activities intern will give you an opportunity to develop lifelong skills and relationships. You won't want to miss out on this opportunity while you are deciding what the next step in life will be.

The intern experience at The Winslow not only benefit the student by providing them with hands on involvement in the planning, set up, and running of activities; but hopes to utilize the intern's ideas, suggestions, and education to build up and continuously improve the Activity Department. The great residents and staff that make up The Winslow Family are a wonderful source of knowledge, friendship, and guidance from which interns can expect to learn and grow. The Winslow's Activity Director, Stefanie Merrell, with over 10 years of experience, is committed to helping each intern complete the internship with increased knowledge of the responsibilities and job duties of an Activity Director, as well as, a better understanding of Columbine Health System as a whole.

The Worthington - Fort Collins
Activities Internship - At The Worthington our goal is to create a safe, loving, family based environment for seniors in our community. We not only open our doors to caring for seniors, but also invite students and volunteers into our building to interact with our residents. Spending time with the senior population offers a variety of endless experiences, priceless stories and long lasting relationships. As a student intern at The Worthington, you would be working closely with Tami Promes, the Activity Director, other Columbine employees, and of course residents! Interns assist the Activity Director in running daily activities such as; exercise, news groups, birthday parties, presentations, games, etc. We want students to practice interpersonal skills by visiting with residents, taking part in activities, and eventually leading activities on their own. We also encourage students to use their imaginations and creativity to come up with their own ideas for new activities! Besides leading activities and events, the student will be responsible for helping the A.D. plan monthly calendars, advertise upcoming events, and work with word documents. Spending your semester at The Worthington will give you a greater understanding of the duties and responsibilities of an Activity Director in a Senior Living facility and help you to understand the broad spectrum of care that Columbine Health Systems has to offer.
