At Columbine Commons Health & Rehab, John Cogburn, LPN, has long been known for his calm presence and compassionate care. This Nurses Week, we are proud to recognize John as one of our DAISY Award Winners—an honor reserved for nurses who go above and beyond to make a profound difference in the lives of patients and families.
It began with a simple act of kindness. A daughter shared how John helped her gently get her mother into the car after a visit. “He was positive, humble, and helpful,” she wrote. “He made me feel supported and seen.”
Nancy Moore, the resident John has cared for, wrote:
“He brings me what I need, helps me with my wounds, and then lets me rest. He’s kind, gentle, and always respectful. I feel calmer when he’s around—he’s probably my favorite nurse.”
Nancy’s daughter, Linda, echoed that care extends beyond the resident to the whole family.
“John goes above and beyond to communicate with us. He’s thorough, respectful, and brings a quiet confidence to everything he does. Our mom lights up when she knows he’s working.”
Coworkers describe John as humble, steady, and kind—someone who takes initiative, makes people laugh, and never views a task as beneath him. Whether he’s offering thoughtful solutions or bringing a warm presence to the room, John helps make the community feel like home.
The DAISY Award celebrates nurses whose compassion and clinical skill leave a lasting impact. John Cogburn embodies all of that and more.
Congratulations, John—and thank you for all you do.
