Employee Spotlight: Don Zeh, Lakeview Commons' Director of Fun and Fulfillment

With nearly 22 years of service at Columbine Health, Don's journey is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance, forged through years of experience and an unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant community.

Don’s path to Columbine began long before he stepped through our doors. A native of Colorado, Don grew up in the Denver area before settling in Loveland, a place he has called home for over four decades. His career in healthcare started at Sierra Vista HCC and Berthoud Living Center, where he honed his skills and discovered his calling in creating enriching environments for residents.

Each morning, Don arrives with a sense of purpose, eager to craft a day filled with opportunities for joy and connection. Throughout the day, Don wears many hats: organizer, communicator, and problem solver. He attends meetings, manages the activity calendar, responds to emails, and answers calls—all while maintaining a welcoming presence for residents and staff alike. His office is a hub of activity, buzzing with energy and enthusiasm as he works to ensure every resident feels seen, heard, and valued.

For Don, the heart of his role lies in the connections he builds with residents. "The best part of the job is giving our residents a sense of fulfillment and something to do throughout the day," he shares. He understands that activities are more than just pastimes; they are lifelines that bring people together, encourage socialization, and stimulate intellectual curiosity.

Don's efforts are not just about keeping residents busy but enriching their lives with meaningful interactions. He believes activities offer residents a chance to socialize, engage intellectually, maintain physical mobility, and share their wealth of wisdom with others. In his eyes, each event is an opportunity for residents to forge friendships, discover new interests, and continue growing.

Outside of work, Don's life is as vibrant as the communities he nurtures. He and his wife, celebrating their twentieth wedding anniversary, have created a loving home in Loveland, filled with two grown children, a sister-in-law, a nephew, and an impressive six cats.

Don is not one to shy away from challenges. Alongside his duties at Lakeview Commons, he is pursuing a full-time education at Arizona State University Online, majoring in History and minoring in Astronomy. His academic aspirations include earning a master's degree in World War 2 Studies and furthering his education at Colorado State University.

When he's not working or studying, Don enjoys a variety of hobbies, from cheering on Colorado sports teams to tending his garden, listening to music, and engaging in thoughtful discussions on politics. His passion for learning is matched only by his love for trains, reflecting a lifelong curiosity and a desire to explore new horizons.

To those considering Lakeview Commons Assisted Living as their home, Don extends a heartfelt invitation. "Our facility offers a wide range of activities every day," he says with pride. "We have something for everyone, whether you're looking for social, physical, or intellectual engagement."

In Don A. Zeh, Lakeview Commons has found not only an Activities Director but a beacon of positivity and dedication. His story is one of love, learning, and leadership, enriching the lives of residents and colleagues alike.
